The goal of Vegas Goes Vegan is to spread knowledge. Knowledge = Power and if you have the knowledge to make informed decisions in life then you have the power to transform your health and the planet.
I wasn’t always Vegan. I was raised in the Midwest on a farm. We ate A LOT of meat and dairy products every day. It was just something that we did and I didn’t know any better.
All of my life I have suffered from debilitating inflammation. When I was a kid I would wake up crying in the middle of the night with such bad aches and pains in my arms and legs. This continued into my adult life.
After being married for 10 years and seeing my husband (who also suffers from inflammation due to an auto-immune disease) in pain every day I decided that we needed to make some changes.
I did research upon research on everything I could get my hands on. From nutrition to toxins in our daily lives.
We started juicing on a daily basis in 2012 after watching “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.” And we have been juicing every day since. But that didn’t fix all of our problems.
In 2016 we decided to cut out all meat products and become Vegetarian. We still ate cheese, we would eat shrimp and lobster when we went out to dinner, and I am sure some of the sauces on those pasta dishes we would order contained milk. We noticed some small changes in our health once we became Vegetarian but it did not fix our inflammation problems.
About 3 months of eating a Vegetarian diet we decided to cut out all dairy products completely and all seafood. We became VEGAN! Becoming Vegan was the best thing that has happened to us. Within a week we really started noticing changes. We felt healthier, we had more energy, our minds were becoming more clear and it was easier to focus. As time went on we noticed that our eyes were becoming brighter, our nails were stronger, and our hair was healthier. After eating I wasn’t ready for a nap. I was no longer bloated. I just felt really, really good!
After reading “The China Study” by T. Colin Campbell, PhD, “How Not To Die” by Dr. Michael Greger, M.D. and “Proteinaholic” by Garth David, M.D., we have adopted a Whole Food Plant Based Diet (WFPBD). It’s pretty easy. All you eat is whole, unrefined plants. All vegetables, fruits, whole grains (100% whole wheat, oats, brown rice, etc), seeds and nuts. We’ve never felt better. And to top it off – our grocery bill has gone down.
I just wanted to share my personal story and the steps that we took to gain control over our own health.
The purpose of Vegas Goes Vegan is to inspire others to live a healthy life. I hope you enjoy my blog. 🙂
