A host of celebrities and activists came together September 12, 2018 in solidarity for animals during a silent march – with many taking part in 24-hours of silence.
The March of Silence, which took place in Downtown Los Angeles, brought attention to animal suffering. It was supported by a number of high profile vegans including Travis Barker, Moby, Kip Andersen, and Torre Washington. In addition, hundreds of activists took part, wearing symbolic green tape over their mouths or shoulders to represent how animals are systematically silenced.
“We are marching for an end to their exploitation and objectification. We demand liberation and sovereignty for the millions of animal who are silenced or whose cries continue to fall on deaf ears. We are here to bring their plight into the public eye and create space for compassionate action,” said organizers.
Following the event on September 12, organizers said: “Thank you to everyone who showed up last night and marched in solidarity for the animals. We had an amazing turnout and could not be any happier.”
The event was covered by ABC7’s Jory Rand, who said: “I’ve covered many marches and demonstrations in Downtown LA, but never one that was 100 percent silent. The contract was almost jarring.
“It was the March of Silence, an effort to bring attention and compassion to what participants call the plight of the billions of voiceless animals in factory farms and animal testing laboratories.”
